Obituary for Minnie Smith Odom (Smith)

Minnie Smith Odom was born June 9, 1939 to the late Sylvester and Flora Smith in Morven, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bendoyle (Sleepy) Odom; sisters: Ollie Caple and Dorothy (Dot) Ross; and her beloved youngest daughter, Tracy Yolanda Odom.

She completed Morven High School prior to relocating to Norfolk, Virginia. She met and married her husband, Bendoyle (Sleepy) Odom. They were married forty years. She and her husband owned a very successful auto detailing business, Auto Laundry, in Virginia Beach. In addition to working with her husband, she provided daycare to the children of many relatives and friends for many years. She truly loved children.

She truly loved the Lord and was a member of Covenant Community Church. Her favorite scriptures were Psalm 50:15 and John 3:16. She loved gardening and lawn care. Her family was her world. Minnie was a kind, dependable, dedicated, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who gave of herself willingly to render help to everyone. She was loved by all who knew her and will surely be missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends

She leaves to cherish her memory five children: Bernard Odom, Barry Odom, Christopher Odom, Marlinda Champagne, Rosa Odom-Turner; grandchildren: Chantelle (Jose) Camacho, Chrishawnia Dailey, Ashley Odom, Andrew Odom, Kiara Turner, Iman Turner, Justice Champagne, Nia Champagne, and Jade Williams; great grandchildren: Kortez Odom, JoVon Dailey, Amari Odom, Tracy Odom, and Hollis Francis; sisters: Flora Washington and Martha Ratliff; brothers: Rev. Alexander Smith and Leroy Smith; in-laws: Matrue Odom, Abraham (Teloria) Odom, Moses Odom, Julia (Rev. Rufus) Nix, Joe (Doris) Odom, Eddie (Regina) Odom, Corene Morgan and Dorothy (Alexander) Webb; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
