On Monday, the 8th of May 2017, a beloved Wife, Daughter, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin, Niece, Friend, and Neighbor was called home.
Bonita Charlyne Carter was born on January 12, 1961 in Norfolk, Va to Sarah Frances Eley Hopkins and Willie Alexander Hopkins and was also raised by her mother away from home, Ella Mae Hill. DeeBee, as we all know her, was the middle daughter of ten brothers and sisters and she graduated from Norview High School.
DeeBee resided in the Ingleside Area of Norfolk in the home that she made, with her husband, Ricky Lee Carter. She retired from her work as a Hotel Housekeeping Supervisor, to begin her battle with Cardiomyopathy in 1993 and was gifted with a second heart on September 24, 1994. She went on from retirement to become an Entrepreneur of many many very successful business ventures, ranging from purses and jewelry, to seafood and event catering services, to electronics and running a travel agency with her sisters.
She was a wonderful mother of four who not only raised her children, but her grandchildren and now great grandchild, children of her neighborhood, and she cared for her mother in law, Rose Marie Wilder, and her sister in laws, Viktisha Wilder, April Carter, Kimm Carter, and Curtisha Wilder. Her heart was a jewel beyond measure and she shared it with anyone in need of love. She would invite anyone in need into her home and she made sure to have plenty of candy apples and popsicles for the children.
Bonita leaves her legacy with her husband, Ricky, her four children: Tiffany L. Hopkins of Landover, MD, Tatesha D. Hopkins of Houston, TX, Ricky L. Hopkins of Norfolk, Va, and Cedrick J. Carter of Orange Country, CA, her 7 grandchildren: Keyon S. Hopkins, Akira B. Hopkins, Naveon N. Mitchell, Javontae Z. Hopkins, Jayden Z. Hopkins, Jakylah ZB Hopkins, and Christian O Parker, one great grandson: Zakai S. Hopkins.
She will also live on through her four sisters: Carleathia Thomas (Ralph), Iveeta Tillar (Ronald), Willette Nowlin (Steven), and Marita Smith(Raymond) and four brothers, Wendell Hopkins, (Mhara) Willie Hopkins Jr, (Debra), Aldo Hopkins, and Wayland Hopkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and family that she ushered into our hearts.
She was predeceased by her Mother, Father, and her brother, Carmichael Hopkins.
