Mr. Junius McIver Bagby, 93, of Norfolk, VA transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 17, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Bagby was born in Richmond, Virginia to the Late Junius McIver Bagby and the late Millie Taylor Bagby. Junius’ Sisters, Eula, Mattie Lou, and Johnette also predeceased him in death.
He was happily married to the late Helen Robertson Bagby, affectionately called “Mrs. B”, who died in January 2007.
Mr. Bagby graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk, VA and went on to pursue additional coursework at Norfolk State University. He worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad and the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority prior to his retirement in the early 80’s.
Following his retirement, he would often be seen walking and/or riding the bus all over town. Walking was one of his favorite past times along with being a conversationalist and avid reader.
Another one of Uncle Junius’ “Loves” was his Church – “Metropolitan AMEZ” and his membership on the “Steward’s Board”, “Varied Brotherhood”, “Missionary Board” and assisting as the “Preacher’s Helper”. He spoke fondly with much regards every time he served, giving honor and great praise for the opportunity to serve.
He is survived by a special and devoted Niece, Wilhelmenia C. Fennell (Elaine), Helena Winters (Niece); Nephews, Johnnie, Erskine, Michael, and Sidney Caldwell; Godson Howard Parham; Very Special Friends, Emily Praileau, Sheba Edward, Barbara McPherson, Faye Batter, Michelle Norris, Sharon Kennedy, David and Carolyn Graddy, Rev. Clarence Cuffee, and Mr. Al Fuller. Mr. Bagby was also favored to have great Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends who shared and enjoyed the “wisdom” he gave them.
God saw the road was getting rough;
Hills were hard to climb,
He gently closed those loving eyes,
And whispered, peace be thine;
The weary hours, the sleepless nights are Past;
The ever patient worn out frame, has found sweet rest at last!
