Obituary for Bessie Lee Turner (Wilson)

Because he has set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
Psalm 91:14

Early in the morning, on November 5, 2017, God called Bessie Lee Wilson Turner to her heavenly home. Bessie was born on February 28, 1935, to the parents of Albert Wilson and Mary Anne Warden Wilson, of Norfolk County, Virginia. Bessie was one of thirteen siblings born to this union. Bessie is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk, VA. During her career, she worked as an upholsterer and seamstress. She was a trained nurse’s assistant who volunteered with the organization known as "Lee's Friends." Bessie joined Mason Memorial COGIC where she served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. She has been a member of New Hope Church of God In Christ, Norfolk, VA., since 1984. She was appointed President of the Sewing Circle at New Hope. Over the years, Mrs. Bessie Turner demonstrated her love for her immediate and extended families as she graciously welcomed others into her home.

The memories of Bessie’s life will be cherished by a loving husband, Hoover Turner, Sr., and a devoted son, Hoover M. Turner, Jr. of Norfolk, VA; two grandchildren, Precious Marie and Caleb Branch, (Jane Branch, mother, of Norfolk, VA); a special daughter, Ms. Karen Turner of Norfolk, VA. She leaves three nieces: Lena Carter of Chesapeake, VA, LaLa Owens, Martha Perry and one nephew, Eugene Perry, all of Norfolk, VA. Bessie was godly proud of the ministry of her nephew, Joseph Ricks, Pastor of Divine Hands Worship Center, Chesapeake, VA. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. She is also survived by many devoted in-laws who appreciated the loving care she demonstrated towards the Turner family.
