Obituary for Nora Denise Lanier - Britt (Lanier)

Nora Denise Lanier - Britt (Lanier)
As the angels gathered by her side, Nora Denise Britt received her Heavenly Wings on November 18, 2017, in her home surrounded by her loving family in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born March 16, 1960 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to her parents Dennis and Lorraine Lanier.

In 1980, Denise met the love of her life, Jimmie Britt Jr., who was attending Eastern Michigan University and caused her to fall madly in love, sweeping her off her feet. After two years of courting, Jimmie and Denise became One in Holy Matrimony in 1982. He then whisked her away to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where they raised their family of three (Lauren, Jimmie III and Erin) and she resided for the remainder of her precious life.

Denise graduated from Ypsilanti High School and then attended Washtenaw Community College. Not liking the college scene, she earned her Cosmetology License, and shortly thereafter, Jimmie and Denise became the proud owners of Hair Fantasy, where their motto and service was “We’re Better Because We Care!”

Hair Fantasy quickly became a very special entity in both men and women’s lives. It was a safe haven, a place of healing and deliverance. Hair Fantasy was truly a ministry. In fact, it was the first step to Denise’s true passion and calling here on Earth.

Having a soft spot for battered women, she began to sponsor fundraiser events such as cut-a-thons, free make-overs, fashion and hair shows along with much more. She also volunteered her time, being a part of the domestic abuse hotline as well as opening her home to those in need. Always able to call on her Hair Fantasy sisters and family, she encouraged many others to give back by leading campaigns to help produce items for families in need, provided support at the American Cancer Societies, “Look Good, Feel Good” program, sponsoring food and clothing drives for the holidays, raising money for Hurricane Katrina victims, as well as money for educational scholarships.

The more she helped others the bigger her heart grew, and the next thing you knew, in 2009 the seed to DOL’s (Daughters of Life) was planted and grew into a popular charity organization that provides resources to individuals and families in crisis, educational scholarships, along with workshops, seminars and conferences.

At an early age, Denise began to walk in her spiritual calling, which allowed God to use her to lead her own mother to Christ, at Community Church of God in Ypsilanti, MI. In 1998, Denise became a faithful member of Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, Virginia, where she proudly served on the Media and Prison ministries.

Denise’s light shined everywhere she went, never meeting a stranger and always having open arms to help those in need. Although never wanting to be in the spotlight and called out for her good works, Denise was honored and recognized throughout the Hampton Roads. She was named a Woman of Distinction by the YWCA, a Lifetime Achievement Honoree by the Seatack Community Civic League, along with receiving the 2017 Glow Award from Calvary Revival Church.

After 23 years of making women feel beautiful, Denise wanted to embark on a new challenge, earning her Real Estate license and joining the Rose and Womble Real Estate family. She was able to help empower families by leading them in the purchase of their first home. This was such a natural gift for Denise that she was awarded the Rose and Womble Rookie of the Year and New Home Sales Award. She spread a lot of smiles, support, encouragement and most of all the love of Christ to all of her clients and team members, leaving a lasting impression of what it is like to experience genuine love in a professional setting.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Dennis and Lorraine Lanier.

Denise is survived by her wonderful and loving husband of 35 years, Jimmie L. Britt Jr. and her three awesome, caring and loving, beautiful children, Lauren K. Britt, Jimmie L. Britt, III and Erin B. Snell and son-in-law Moses and her special niece/daughter Mia Lanier. She was affectionately called “De De” by her six precious grandchildren, Maci and Braelyn Britt, Jimi (Baby J), Moses Jr., Malik, and Malcom Snell along with her grand-doggy Discipline. Denise was loved by her five brothers, Ernest (Chilly), Terry, Dennis (sister-in-law Renita), Arthur (sister-in-law Annette Lanier) and Dennis Lynn Davis. Along with a host of special nieces, nephews and cousins, and not to mention a massive number of loving friends and Family!
