Obituary for Henry Michael Mack

Henry Michael Mack, affectionately known as Mickey, was born on August 10, 1947 to the late Henry Arthur and Audrey Rogers Mack in Queens, NY. He departed this life on Monday, November 27, 2017 in Norfolk, Virginia.

Henry resided in New York City for most of his life where he received his formal education. He completed his education in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on September 18, 1969, having served one tour in the Vietnam War. Henry loved talking about his travels while in the Navy, “ I remember when I was in Sasebo, Japan” he would say. However, his favorite place was Martha’s Vineyard. He started visiting there at an early age with his Aunt Mildred and Cousin Gwen. He continued this tradition with his children and other family members until as recently as the summer of 2017.

Henry also loved fishing and watching the History Channel. He could recite battle sites from any war and would be amazed at anyone who didn’t know what he was talking about. He often shared his love of fishing and boating by teaching so many to fish. One of his greatest joys was watching a child catch his first fish. Henry was employed by the New York City Correctional Department for over twenty years. His co-workers and inmates alike loved him. He retired with the rank of Captain on June 1, 1993.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife for thirty-six years, Greer Edmond Mack; four children, Dawn West McTaggart (Sandy) of Cumberland, Maryland; Rana Burwell Fagan (Jeremiah) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Kyron Mack (Colette) of Albany, New York; Dena Mack Liston (David III) of Naples, Florida; seven grandchildren, Kasey West, Desmond West, Ian Liston, David Liston IV, Eva Greer Liston, Hosea Fagan and Micah Fagan; two great grandchildren, Zuri Rose and Carter Tayvon West; two sisters, Jeri Mack of Saratoga, New York and Tawana Mack of Bronx, New York, and a host of other relatives and friends.
