Obituary for Virgal Molly Lowery (Lundy)

On Sunday, December 10, 2017, our loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, Mother Virgal Lundy Lowery gained her wings. She was a daughter of Norfolk, being born on June 17, 1943 to the late Thomas Lundy and Virgal Smallwood Lundy. Mother Lowery joined the Glorious Church of God in Christ at an early age; under her grandmother, Pastor Elnora Lundy, where she received the Holy Ghost at an early age. She later became affiliated with the Mason Memorial Church of God In Christ on Goff Street in Norfolk, VA. She then Public Schools for more than moved her membership to New Hope Church of God in Christ and then Joined Pastor Lilliard at New Bethel. Finally, she decided to come with Faith Deliverance Tabernacle in Emporia, VA, where her son is the presiding Bishop and Pastor. She became the National Mother of the organization where she attended services as often as she could and worked dutifully. She was an educator at heart, teaching in the Public School Systems for over 37 years. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Norfolk State University. She later attained her Masters Degree from Norfolk State University and went on to receive her second Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision. She also loved working with the Norview Senior Circle at the Norview Center where she served on the board. Mother Lowery is survived by her one and only son, Bishop Vincent D. Lowery; a sister, Overseer Thomasine McClendon; two brothers, Brother Thomas Lundy and Brother Richard Smallwood; two aunts, Mrs. Elsie Barber and Eunice Lipton, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Left to also cherish her memory is a “favorite” niece Evangelist Thomasine Jackson and a close friend who was more like a sister, Mrs. Toni Nathaniel.
