Obituary for Luther James Burroughs Sr.

Luther James Burroughs, Sr. born on February 12, 1940 in Georgetown, South Carolina to the late Horace Burroughs, Sr. and Florence Pyatt Burroughs.

Luther (Joe Joe) who was educated in the Georgetown County Public School system and graduated from Choppee High School in 1959.

He was reared in a loving and religious home and was taught the importance of maintaining good values and ethics. He accepted The Lord as his Savior at Friendship St. Mary A.M.E. Church in the Annie Village Community. He moved his membership to First Baptist Berkley in Norfolk, Virginia; where he was a member of the Diamond Jubilee Choir.

Luther James Burroughs, Sr. married the love of his life, Benzena Rhue who proceeded him in death in 2015. Luther and Benzena moved to Norfolk, Virginia where they lived happily together for over 56 years. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Luther James Burroughs, Jr. (Jamie); who nurtured and cared for both parents in sickness until death.

Luther was a hardworking man, always smiling, never complained, a wonderful and devoted husband and father. (Spoiling Jamie every single moment possible.) He was a great handyman, always staying busy; he even continued working after retiring from Baylor Home Improvement Corporation after 40 plus years.
Luther James Burroughs, Sr. had three sisters, Leitha Mae Burroughs Dekine, Mattie Burroughs Johnson, Dorothy Burroughs Pringle and two brothers, Horace Burroughs, Jr. and Herbert Burroughs all of which proceeded him in death.

Luther leaves to cherish his loving memories, his son, Luther James Burroughs, Jr.; one grandson, Kane as well a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
