Obituary for Katherine Cross Hodges (Cross)

Katherine Delores Cross was born February 25th, 1958 in Suffolk, Virginia. "Kathie" as she was affectionately called was the 5th child to the Late Alphine and Robert Cross. After 59 vivacious and fabulous years, she went on to glory in her home on January 12, 2018.

Kathie received her education through Suffolk Public School System and started her collegiate education at Norfolk State University. Eager to learn, she continued her education in 2016. She received her Food Service Certification from Tidewater Community College.

Kathie soon began a conversation with a young sailor, Kenneth W. Hodges, who had just found out his head would not fit in a jar. From that conversation, they enjoyed 28 years of marriage. From that union they had two children, Katrina Eliza Hodges, and Kenneth Wayne Hodges II. Kathie was a loving mother, wife, and friend. Once you met her you were family and got the nickname "Baby.”

In Kathie's professional life she started as a bank teller with First Virginia working her way through her manager training and over the course of 20 years became a Financial Center Manager with BB&T. Through her years of leadership, she affectionately became known as "Ms. Katty" by her staff and clients. She was a leader who on holidays would prepare Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for her staff, coordinating secret Santa, and gift exchanges. She was one of the rare bosses that was able to have both the love and respect of her staff. In 2011, she decided to retire from banking.

Later in life, she became the epitome of strength and inspiration to those battling Alcoholism. Through her transparency with struggling with her addiction she was able to receive a new lease on life and give back to those who thought it was the end of their story. She was able to serve as Her AA chapter Vice-President and then as Treasure for Norfolk, Virginia's Easy Does it Center. Through her time there she was able to help organize dances, and holiday celebrations being able to provide laughs and good times for those struggling. She was a real and true human being that brought light and fresh air to any place she went. She was able to provide an ear to those in need without judgement and an air of unconditional love.

Kathie loved her lord and savior Jesus Christ and she understood that it did not just have to be inside the walls of a church. Through her works and aide to others, she displayed Christ's number one principle by helping others when she could. She carried her faith with her to until her last breath. She left in peace with her arms raised ready to receive her heavenly father.

Kathie leaves to cherish her loving memories a daughter, Katrina E. Hodges, a son Kenneth (Kiala) Hodges II, a grandson Kingston (her Kingy) Hodges, as well as her former spouse and friend Kenneth Hodges. Kathie also leaves to cherish in her memory her siblings, Joseph Cross, Robert Cross Jr., Vanessa (Willie) Hicks, Keith Cross, Jeffery (Mable) Cross, and James Cross. A Special Uncle James Thomas and Special Niece Marion Copeland. She also leaves to embrace in her memory siblings in love Geraldine (Marvin) Goings, Jody Hodges, Barbara (Robert) Johnson, Martha (Ken) Gritter, Charles Hodges, Carolyn Hodges, and Ronnie Hodges. She will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers.
