Obituary for Alicia Dinita Thorogood

Alicia Dinita Thorogood, our beloved angel passed away peacefully,
surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Sentara Hospice House to be with her Lord and savior.

Alicia was born on December 26, 1959, to Lois H. Thorogood and the late James Thorogood, Sr.

“Licia” as she was affectionately known had the most beautiful personality, smile and had a heart of pure gold. Words could never convey how special she was to us.

She graduated from Norview High School and attended Norfolk State University. During her school years, she was always an honor student, top athlete and avid swimmer. She was a pre-candidate for the Olympic Swimming Team but decided not to attend due to her preparing for the arrival of her only baby girl Tylicia.

At an early age, she joined Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church with her sisters and was baptized on an Easter Sunday morning following her decision to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Along with her siblings, she rode the church bus to Sunday School and enjoyed church services at Enoch Baptist and Queen Street although, Mt. Lebanon was her primary church of worship. Alicia knew and loved the Lord.

Alicia served as Manager of several small businesses and retail stores. With her nurturing instinct and her love of children, she served as the caregiver for family and friends within the community. She was known for ensuring that each child was well fed, highly groomed (Shined up) and smelling good when their parents arrived for pick up. She was also known as the Protector out of her siblings and they could surly depend on Alicia to stand up and defend herself and them, against any bully. She loved Lottery tickets, enjoyed playing Dominoes, Backgammon and playing casino games.

Alicia was predeceased by her grandmother, Alice Pittman Corey (Ninny) and sister Sheila T. Hubbard.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving mother, Lois H. Thorogood; her devoted daughter, Tylicia Jones; her amazing granddaughter, Trinity Anderson. A devoted fiancé, Bryant K. Cartwright, two special sons Bryant Jr. and Dontae Cartwright. Four loving sisters: Vernet Vaughan, Chwanda Clark, Pamela Gilliam, Patrice Thorogood. Four brothers: James Thorogood, Jr., Michael Thorogood (Joyce), Kelvin Thorogood and Allen Seay; two god children Brittany Davis and Raymond Bishop; One Uncle, Edward Griffin, Sr., and one great aunt, Katie P. Butler, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and special daughters. Also, her loving pet, Taboo.
