Sara Mildred Hill Banks Morris, 93 died peacefully at the Liza Residential Care Home, Virginia Beach, Va. on October 4, 2018.
Sara was born to the late Samuel and Lucille Peace Hill on September 12, 1925 in Brunswick County, VA, her family relocated to Norfolk in 1956. She has one sister, Alice H. Moore and one nephew, Warren Moore. Sara married Johnnie L. Morris, Sr., in 1969 and has two step-daughters: Gail M. Bell, Angela D. Morris; two step-sons: Johnnie L. Morris, Jr., and Keith Morris.
She went to high school on the campus of St Paul’s College for 2 ½ years, she attended Booker T. Washington High School and graduated 1946. Sara attended Norfolk State University 1963 and received her BS degree in Business Education.
Sara retired from Norfolk State University with 40 years of service as Department Supervisor of Printing Services.
She was a member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church and served on Trustee Board, Church Office and First Coordinator of Women’s Fellowship.
Sara became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Omega chapter in 1963; she was Basileus (1983-84), Anti-Basileus, Epistoleus and Grammateus; she chaired the Ebony Fashion Show fundraiser for many years; life member and a Golden member with 50 + years of service to all mankind. Sara also belonged to the Women’s Faculty Club at Norfolk State University, Krazy Kats, Delicados (Va. Beach chapter).
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories her husband, Johnnie L. Morris, Sr. of Virginia Beach, VA, two step-daughters: Gail M. Bell of Portsmouth, VA and Angela D. Morris of NC; two step-sons: Johnnie L. Morris, Jr., and Keith Morris; one sister, Alice H. Moore, and nephew, Warren T. Moore of Arlington, VA and several nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and sorority sisters.
