Obituary for Avon James Giddens Jr.

Print
Avon James Giddens, Jr. ‘Kick’ the oldest son, the first born, as Mom put it her ‘Specially Wrapped Darling’; was born September 28, 1960 in Kokomo, Indiana to Mr. Avon James Giddens, Sr. and the late Mrs. Delores Jean Giddens.
Avon was labeled as a Special Needs Person but truth be told he was a person who family knew as a man who was “Especially Needed”. He couldn’t speak a great deal of words yet his eyes, his actions, his presence spoke volumes. With social stigma
Avon lived his life with joy and a song in his heart that all who met him or knew him heard clearly.
Avon was able to retire from The Louise Eggleston Center after a faithful tenor of service. He served others and his family and was dearly loved.
Avon loved good food and to know him one knew Coke was his drink of choice which he clearly verbalized. He was a lover of all kinds of music; jazz and gospel to name a few. He enjoyed movies with the family and anticipated the great taste of one of his favorite snacks; popcorn. Avon enjoyed being out on the town; traveling, shopping, dining and delighted in family time.
Known by many as ‘Kick’, ‘Albert’, ‘Hoss Cartwright’ or ‘Ben Grimm’ (Tim’s favorite), Avon nor his family allowed social stigmas of yesterday or today to stifle the remarkable person he flourished into or cause barriers he could not conquer by the grace of God and a loving family. He left an undeniable impression in this world which made a difference in the hearts and minds of many, by just being himself.
Avon loved church and would make a joyful noise.
Avon was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William Alfred Giddens and Melson Giddens; maternal grandparents, Otis Sumler, Sr. and Blanche Sumler and his mother, Delores Jean Giddens.
Leaving to cherish Avon’s life and memories are his devoted father, Avon J. Giddens, Sr.; trusted and caring brother, Timothy B. Giddens; uncles, Wayne Giddens, Larry Sumler, Otis Sumler, Jr., and Michael Sumler, Sr.; aunts, Sylvia G. Simpkins and Gwendolyn G. Johnson (Lessel); cousins, Otis Sumler, III, Michael Sumler, Jr. (Paula), Stephanie Johnson and Elbert Stewart; family friends, Ida Aikens and Angelia Graves.
