Obituary for Betty Lou Neeley (Bransford)

Betty Lou Bransford Neeley, 81, of Portsmouth, Virginia passed away on January 25, 2017. She was born in South Fulton, Tennessee on March 30, 1935. Betty attended Tennessee State College and graduated from the Louise Obici School of Practical Nursing.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Sherman and Essie Bransford and her sister, Helen Louise Bransford.
Betty is survived by two sons, Robert C. Neeley, Jr. (Sharon) and Christopher Neeley; four daughters, Janet Neeley-Johnson (Charles), Carol Neeley, Susan Harris (Derwin), and Elizabeth Williams (Walter); grandchildren Anisha Cooper, Curtis Ponton-Harris, Walter Neeley-Williams, Kyle Harris, Faith Harris, and Franchesca Johnson and other family and friends.
Betty worked as a LPN until her retirement from Louise Obici Hospital. She was a loving and devoted mother. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Betty was an outstanding baker who loved to share her culinary creations. Betty also had a passion for politics which she inherited from her parents; she loved nothing better that to discuss the news of the day. She will be remembered for her kindness, her intelligence, her delightful sense of humor, and her generosity of spirit.
A viewing will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at Graves Funeral Home at 1631 Church Street, Norfolk, VA on Monday, January 30, 2017. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Boulevard, Chesapeake, VA.
