Obituary for Miriam Faith Porter (Holloway)

Miriam Faith Porter also known as Mag, 55, was born February 1, 1962 to James Holloway, Sr. and the late Ruth Holloway. She was called to her heavenly home to rest in the bosom of Jesus on November 2, 2017. She died in her home after battling a brief struggle with cancer.

She was the fifth of eight children born in Portsmouth, VA. She was what her parents called their “miracle child” because her parents experienced complications during childbirth. Through much prayer and “Faith” from both parents, she survived and God made her unique as she was the only child with beautiful birthmarks all over her body.

For the majority of her life she grew up in Lamberts Point located in Norfolk, VA where she was well-known.
She enjoyed, first and foremost, serving God and spending time with her children and family, cooking and cleaning. She was an independent single parent who worked hard to raise and provide for her children. She began her career as a Housekeeper for Old Dominion University for 16 years. She then transitioned for two years working for the City of Portsmouth.

Her loving memories will forever be in the hearts and minds of her loving family, her husband, George Brooks, and her daughters, Ameria (Robert) Gardner, Awanda Porter and son Rahyeem Porter; three grandchildren Alahna, Ramir, and Rahnae; three sisters, Ruth (Dennis), Betty, and Katina (Eleazah); four brothers, James, Connie, Jerome (Karen) and Matthew and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
