Obituary for Raymond Jones Sr.

Raymond Jones, Sr. 95, born on January 6, 1925 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late William Jackson and Laura M. Jones, went home to be with the Lord on July 12, 2020.

Dad was hard working and creative and gave his all to whatever he put his hands to. He attended Booker T. Washington High School, later earning his GED. After an honorable discharge from the US Navy in 1947, he attended the Naval Air Station Apprentice School and graduated as a third class Metalsmith. He continued this trade for ten years while attending classes in real estate. He became a licensed real estate agent, associate broker and managing broker. He also operated Princess Anne Esso-Exxon Corporation-Dealer as well as a Sunoco station, later becoming owner/operator of Jones Auto Sales &Service.

After many years in the auto sales and service business he turned his skills to real estate and was owner/operator of R.J. Realty and R.J. Construction, working until the age of 90. Along with his wife he was a former member of Bethany Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy Brothers Jones, four brothers, William Jones, Daniel Webster Jones, Vernon Jones and Linwood Jones; three sisters Mildred Walker, Helen Jones and Laura Hamlin.

Left to cherish his loving memory are his children Raymond Jones, Jr., Bishop Ronald T. (Loretta) Jones and Kathryn E. (Samuel) Powell all of Chesapeake, Va., Edris Raye Palmer of Va. Beach and Dorothy’s children, William “Tony” Brothers of Norfolk and Minister Sharon (TP) Parker of Chesapeake, Va., nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and friends and his beloved niece and caregiver Winifred “Bubbles” Jones.
