Bena G. Taylor (Carter) was born December 6, 1945, a Sagittarius, who celebrated her birthday the entire month of December, left us on February 10, 2018 to be with the Lord. Bena grew up in Norfolk, VA and attended Booker T. Washington High School. She was loved for her infectious laugh and straightforward attitude.

She will be met in heaven by her mother, the late Dorothy Ellen Brown, her grandparents Rodney and Ida Carter, her Aunt’s Clematine, Ida, Irene, and Liz; her Uncle’s, Eddie, Floyd, Robert, and Samuel. Her best friend from childhood Ms. Doris Robinson, and of course Frank Halison (The Master Story Teller). She will be laughing with Aunt Daisy Ann King, talking to Ms. Orna Mae and visiting with Mrs. Jean Thompson.

Bena was married to Charles E. Taylor, but they later divorced. When she wasn’t driving the school bus, she was working in the school cafeteria between routes or doing another thing she enjoyed, fixing and styling hair. She shared jokes and laughter and cooked like a chef. She would do anything she could to help someone out.
She was raised in the church and attended a few in her years: Antioch Baptist, Queen Street Baptist and Mt. Carmel. She loved the Lord which was apparent when she would sing gospel songs for all to hear from Aretha to Shirley Caesar to the Mighty Clouds of Joy.

She is survived by her children, Maurice Carter (Monique), Dr. Margaret Clements (Orlander), and Monica Carter (James).

Her grandchildren Tia Beasley, Maurice D. Beasley (Boogaloo), LaBena “Candy” Oatis (Curtis), Sherise Thompson, Orlander Clements Jr, Tocara “Mickey” Clements (Samuel), Paul Smith Jr and Joshua McClain and Dallas and Shiryl Carter. Bena also has great – grandchildren.

Bena developed relationships, she was an only child, but we have an Uncle named Mickey (Eugene Jones) and an Aunt named Sandy (Sandra). She has a dear friend, Mrs. Joyce Smith and a special friend named Tony (Anthony Maben).

Her Aunt Mary Stanton and Herrell Lee will surely miss her too, but God knows best, he knew what to do, he called Bena home and gained an Angel.

We all have fond memories of Bena and will remember the good times we shared.
