Obituary for Steven Leslie Armstrong

Steven Leslie Armstrong, 68, of Norfolk, Virginia passed away on April 7, 2018. Steven was born in Newport News, Virginia on August 8, 1949 to John and Louise Armstrong. He graduated from Phenix High School and Virginia State University. He served in the United States Army, where he met his lovely wife of 45 years, Sandra Bing Armstrong. Steven retired from the Norfolk Public School system in 2003 after 25 years as a Special Education teacher.

In his youth, he attended the Gospel Spreading Church in Newport News, where he was baptized and sung in the youth choir. Later in life, he attended Pattern Interrupt Ministries.

He was predeceased by his father John T. Armstrong Sr., step father, Richard Cleveland and grandson Izaiah Armstrong Romez.

He leaves to mourn him, his wife Sandra, two daughters, Tequita (William) Romez and Jaedda (Dentrell) Hall; grandchildren , Braejon, Sheryce and Zariyah Romez and Kylah and Aleah Hall; his mother, Louise Armstrong Cleveland; brothers and sisters, John T. Armstrong (Seidah ), Larry E. Armstrong (Avis), Regina Armstrong King, Carolyn A. Alexander (Richard), Mark A. Armstrong (Fiance- TaMeika ), Kenneth A. Armstrong (Phyllis) and Teresa E. Howard (Chauncey); a host of nieces and nephews, six grand nieces and one grand nephew who each held a special place in his heart; his devoted mother-in-law, Lorna Bing and brother-in-laws Russell Bing, Arnold Steven Bing and Carlus Martin Bing.

Steven was very passionate about education, history and politics. He often donated to organizations such as the United Negro College Fund. He also enjoyed debating with family and friends on topics such as civil rights, health care and the treatment of the underserved in our country. His point of view will truly be missed at our family gatherings. We all looked forward to his ideas on how to solve the problems of our country. He loved his family, especially his daughters, who were the apples of his eye. He was super proud of his grandchildren with “Brae” being his main buddy.

Steven will be missed by all of his family, friends and neighbors.
