Obituary for Robert Lee Alston

In the early evening on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 ROBERT LEE ALSTON quietly slipped away and journeyed home to be with the Lord.

Robert Lee Alston, the seventh child of sixteen children, was born in Nash County North Carolina to the late Bennie and Ada Taylor Alston. Three sisters, Evelyn Alston Martin, Augusta Alston Oates and Rosa Alston Pierce preceded him in death.

On October 14, 1964, Robert was united in holy matrimony to the former Patsie Foster. From this union, two children were born, Juilet and Durant.

Robert was educated in the Nash County Public School System. He graduated from Swift Creek High School in 1962. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force (USAF). While serving in the USAF, Robert continued his education, taking several college courses which enabled him to obtain the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His military career afforded him the opportunity to travel all over the world. After twenty-seven (27) years of military service, Robert retired and moved his family to Goldsboro, North Carolina (NC) where he began another career.

In Goldsboro, Robert was employed by the United States Postal Service (USPS) for thirteen (13) years. During that time, he also worked for many years as a Real Estate Agent. After retiring from the United States Postal Service Robert and Patsie relocated to Lakeland, Florida.

While living in Florida, Robert joined the First Institutional Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Alex Harper, Sr. He was appointed to the Deacon Board where he served faithfully until his health began to fail. Because of his failing health, Robert and Patsie relocated to Virginia to be close to family.

Robert enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He was a member of the Acceptance Masonic Lodge, Rocky Mount, NC; American Legion Post 233, Nashville, NC and the Swift Creek Alumni Association, Incorporated, Rocky Mount, NC, which he treasured and supported faithfully until his death. Among his many hobbies, Robert loved to fish; he thought he was the best fisherman ever.
