Louise Jackson Mason

Louise Jackson Mason, 92 years of age, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

Louise’s homegoing celebration will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 12:00 noon at The Historic First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute St., Norfolk, Virginia; Pastor Robert G. Murray officiating.
Graves Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements.

Louise Tillery Jackson was born on September 20, 1925 in Rich Square, N. C. to the late Maryan Jackson Davis and Jurden Tillery, and raised by her Uncle William Henry Jackson and Aunt Joanna Elliot Jackson on a large farm. Louise had one brother, Whalen Jackson (deceased). On the farm next-door lived John Rufus Mason. They actually played together as young children! She later married her “childhood sweetheart,” John Rufus Mason (deceased) in 1941, and was married for over 65 years!

While John joined the Navy for a short stint, Louise was a “homemaker,” and began raising their family. Mary Louise (deceased), Rufus “Snake” (Denise), Willie (Delores), Ruth (deceased, Raffael), Vivian (Alvin), Audrey, and Jeanette “Jan.” After all of the children were adults; Louise worked at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (Nursery) for a short period of time.
While raising their family in Liberty Park, they became members of The Historic First Baptist Church; Bute St.
Louise was a devoted member of First Baptist Church. She was the “lead” caregiver for Mary all of her life, and had her own personal ministry of loving and helping any and everybody she could. She and John were dedicated to raising their family to love the Lord, and to love and respect others as well. They, also, stressed the importance or serving God, getting a solid education, and having a strong work ethic.

Louise is also survived by a cousin, Vennie Goodman, and a sister-in-law, Nellie Mason (Eddie – deceased). In addition to her surviving children, Louise has over sixteen (16) Grandkids, forty-three (43) Great Grandkids, twelve (12) Great, Great Grandkids, and a huge host of loving family members, First Baptist Church Family members, neighbors, and friends!
