Obituary for Isaac Alson Smallwood Jr.

Isaac Alson (Plum) Smallwood, Jr., born July 3, 1935 in Blounts Creek, NC to the late Isaac Smallwood and Beulah Moore Smallwood Hymon. At the divine call to glory, he entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
Isaac spent his early childhood years in Blounts Creek, NC before relocating with his mother to Norfolk, Virginia. While in Norfolk, he attended Booker T. High School before deciding to join the military. He received his GED while serving in the U.S. Army - Fort Knox, Kentucky.
On July 18, 1958, Isaac married Helen Pritchard Smallwood. Out of this union, 8 children were born and they were longtime residents of Norfolk, VA. Isaac worked tirelessly to provide for his growing family, he worked multiple jobs before retiring from the ILA Long Shoreman Local 1248.
Isaac enjoyed attending local sporting events (mostly Norfolk State Football) and spent many hours during the early years transporting his young sons to and from practices and events. More recently, after his health began to present challenges he’d spent countless hours enjoying the comforts of home while playing solitaire at the dining room table, and watching old westerns.
Preceding him in Death, in addition to his parents are his children, Jessie Smallwood; Mark Smallwood; and Danielle Smallwood; and his sister, Helene Potter.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted and loving wife Helen Smallwood. To continue his legacy he leaves his children – Concetta Herbert of Norfolk, VA; Isaac Smallwood III (Barbara) of Norfolk, VA; Stephon Smallwood (Teressa) Manassas, VA; Gabriel Smallwood of Norfolk, VA; Jonathan Smallwood, Norfolk, VA and Melvin Mitchell, Norfolk, VA. His Sisters Angela Hymon Taylor, of Danbury, CT; and Mary Belle “Maybelle” Ham, of Aurora, NC.
He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Nicole Detwilder (Charles); Eric Batey; Jasmine McCarty; Kelly Braxton; Kenneth Blow; Stephon Smallwood Jr. (Rekeisha); Tyquan Perry; Jonathan George; Jaston George; Trinity Smallwood; and Tamaria Smallwood; several great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
