James Leroy Howard, Jr., 72, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Norfolk Health and Rehab Center. James, a native of Savannah, Georgia was born to the late James L. Howard, Sr. and Annie Mae Howard.
He graduated from Granby High School and continued his education at Tuskegee University in Alabama. After college he joined the United States Navy where he served his country. James retired from the City of Norfolk in the Planning and Codes Administrations department after 30 years of service.
Even after retirement James stayed active. He played and coached baseball, he enjoyed cooking, and he loved crossword puzzles. He took great pride in his daughter Cassie’s musical gifts and rarely missed a performance.
James was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Charlotte Slaughter and a special 2nd mother, Angela Allen.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Cassandra Howard of Virginia Beach, VA and Virginia Keisel of Norfolk, Virginia, two sisters, Rebecca Grimstead (J. Victor, Jr.) and Loida Daniels (Anthony, Sr.) all of Virginia Beach, Virginia, two aunts, Sylvia Moore of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Rev. Dr. Constance L. Thomas of Savannah, Georgia and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a special companion, Barbara Owens.
