Obituary for Harriette Jones Kearney (Jones)

Harriett Jones Kearney, 97, entered into eternal rest on Saturday November 3, 2018. She was born October 23, 1921, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Reverend Joseph and Eva Belle Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband Jordan Kearney, four sisters Cora, Eva Belle, Jeanette and Mary and three brothers Joseph, John and James.
Harriett was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and Norfolk State College. She was a well known beautician and owned “Beauty World”, on Princess Anne Road for years. She taught in the public school system for a while and then went to work at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where she retired.
Harriett enjoyed canning and gardening. She was well known for her pickle and pears that she sold at church every Sunday. She normally had a line and pre-orders during the holiday. She was so gracious as to donate the proceeds to the church. Harriett loved jewelry and was never seen without her trademark bangles and earrings. She could often be seen planting flowers and weeding at the entrance to her neighborhood Sunrise Hills.
Harriett was also a long time member of the Krazy Kats Social Club.
Left to mourn her loss are her son Luther Gray, Chesapeake, VA, grandchildren Kevin Gray, Newport News, VA and Lisa Lavallis, Suffolk, VA, nieces, Ingrid Ferebee, Angela Blocker, Delores Jones and nephews Ralph Jones and Laurence Dancy. Aunt Martha Jones, Norfolk, VA.
