Obituary for Edward Jerome Gordon
On Sunday December 9, 2018, Edward Jerome Gordon, at age 57 after a lengthy illness, went home to be with the Lord. Edward was born on Tuesday, July 18, 1961 in Norfolk, Virginia, to parents Edward Williams and Joan Barnes.
Edward attended Virginia Beach Public Schools. He began working at the age of 16 for the City of Virginia Beach Public Schools as a Janitor at Thurgood Elementary School and after 30 years Edward retired as Head Custodian. Edward married Stephanie O. Allen in 1991, their union was blessed with two children, Alecia and Edward, Jr. Edward and Stephanie were married for 27 years.
After retiring from Virginia Beach Public Schools, Edward worked as a Maintenance Coordinator at Virginia Wesleyan College, now Virginia Wesleyan University. Edward was an entrepreneur, operating Strong Arm Cleaning, a handyman service; where he cleaned carpets, floors, upholstery, and did other odd jobs. Edward was a lover of dogs, working on cars, and playing the lottery.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Williams and Joan Barnes, his step-father Fred Barnes, his grandmother, Rebecca Gordon.
He leaves to cherish his memory Wife, Stephanie Gordon,; his children, Alecia and Edward, Jr.; one grandchild, Jorden Gordon; Step Mother, Thelma Williams,; two sisters, Benita Turner (Ray) and Michelle Barnes, two brothers Keith Barnes and Patrick Barnes; in laws, Mr. Richard S. and Mrs. Arnida Allen, Jr. and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
