Obituary for Bobbie Columbus Hunt
Bobbie C Hunt, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.
Bobbie was born to the late Olivia and Willard G Hunt on August 16, 1948 in Smithfield, Virginia. He lived in Smithfield with his siblings Willard M, Mary (M.A.), Lee, Teolar, Odessa, Marie, Clotell, Mabel, Ada, Jack, and Beverly until he graduated from high school and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served four years active duty in the military police. Following an honorable discharge, Bobbie entered college. In 1980, Bobbie graduated from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia with a degree in Industrial Arts Education. He taught in the Norfolk City school system for a brief period before pursuing a career with State Farm Insurance Company in 1981. He retired from State Farm in 2011.
Bobbie met Cynthia Mayo (Yvonne) in 1975 and they were later married in 1981. They had two children: Ashley and Greg.
Bobbie enjoyed fishing, biking, hiking, attending Virginia State football and basketball games as well as the annual CIAA tournament. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
Bobbie is survived by his wife, Yvonne Hunt and children Ashley Hunt, Greg Hunt (Crissy), Bobbie John Norwood-Hunt, and Dawn Norwood-Hunt. He is survived by siblings Mary “M.A.” Grandison (Joe) of Portsmouth, VA, Armstice “Lee” Hunt (Jean) of Jamaica, NY, Ada Hunt of Carrollton, VA, and Odessa Dukes, Marie Edwards, Mabel Hunt, Jack Hunt, and Beverly Hunt all of Smithfield, VA. He is survived by grandchildren Isaiah Hunt, Ariel Hunt, Demetrius Hunt, Dorothy Hunt, Xaria Hunt, Xayden Hunt, Laila Hunt, and Dawn JoAnn Hunt as well as great grandchildren Marlee Evans, Daelynn Rashawn Dunn, Johanna Mizell and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” (Ja 4:13-15)
