Obituary for Arthur Augusta Brown
We didn’t know that morning, that God was calling your name. In life you were loved so dearly…in death it will be the same. On Wednesday, January 9, 2019, Arthur A. Brown answered his call and slipped into eternity.
Arthur A. Brown, affectionately known as “Art” was born in Norfolk Virginia on December 19, 1936, to the late Walter McKinley Brown and Rosa Lee Tucker. He was preceded in death by his wife; Patricia Ann Brown and siblings; Lile Mae Gray, Edith Watson, Alease Gray Hopkins, Sallie Mae Webb and Dorothy L. Brown.
Art attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1955. Art pursued and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree on May 26, 1959 from Winston-Salem Teacher’s College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Art taught in the Norfolk Public School system and the Portsmouth School system between 1960 and 1973. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1960. He was honorably discharged in 1962 and served in the Army Reserves until 1966. Art became a member of the Veterans organization; American Legion Attucks Post #5.
Art relocated to Washington, DC, and taught in the District of Columbia school system from 1973 to 1976. Art was always evolving and recreating his accomplishments in his life endeavors. He worked in the District of Columbia Government as a Computer Specialist and retired in 1997. After this position he became an employee of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (METRO) as a Senior Technical Systems Specialist from 1998-2008 from which he also retired.
Art was a very loving and caring person who would always brighten up a room or a party with his infectious laughter and joking. He loved people.
To Cherish his memory, he leaves and would tell you his greatest accomplishment is his beloved daughter; Monica D. Marrow, VA Beach, VA; 1-sister, Mary E. Wiggins (Theodore), and 1-brother, William M. Brown, Sr. (Alma); a special niece, Desiree Brown, a great-niece, Nina Brown and a nephew, William M. Brown, Jr. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, fraternity brothers and friends.
