Obituary for Barbara Geraldine Pinner (Pinner)

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” (2 Timothy 4: 7-8)

Quietly and peacefully on Sunday morning, January 13, 2019, Mother Barbara Pinner passed away into eternal her rest in the arms of Jesus at her residence in the Villa Heights Community in Norfolk, VA. She was born January 24, 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Gerald and Rayola Pinner. Mother Pinner was educated in the Norfolk Public School System and was a 1956 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She also attended Tidewater Tech and worked as a pharmacy tech at Norfolk Sentara Hospital.

Mother Barbara was a beautiful child of God; who accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at a young age in her life while attending with her children the Mason Memorial Church of God in Christ. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her friends, her neighbors, and with her current Mt. Hermon Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ Church Family. Mother Barbara was a very loving and dedicated mother and grandmother to her children. She was a caring neighbor who was known for working in her Villa Terrace apartment complex as the Fourth Saturday Soup Kitchen Lady for fourteen years where she made sure that thirty or more residents received bag lunches from her friends at the New Bethlehem Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ.

Mother Barbara was a faithful member of the Mt. Hermon Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ where she loved attending, supporting, and working in every ministry of the church. She loved with all her heart all those who served as Pastors of the church. Mother Pinner dearly loved her church family and especially her current Pastor, Elder Winfred and First Lady, Lady Debbie Basnight. Until her health failed, she served with joy on the Mother Board, sang in the choir, worked on the Board of Missions, assisted in preparing and serving in the Kitchen Ministry. Mother Pinner was faithful to supporting on the district level the North Albemarle District Union Meeting as well as at the Washington-Norfolk District Assembly. She was a true child of God who enjoyed every opportunity to serve and praise the Lord.

Mother Barbara is preceded in death by her loving son, Delbert Pinner. She leaves to cherish her memories two beloved sons, Maurice (Annette) and Brian Pinner of the residence in Norfolk, VA; two special daughters, Patrice Ledbetter and Donita Jackson; four loving grandchildren, Delvin Pinner, Deltrice Pinner, Jahleel Pinner, and Monae Pinner; and one adorable great grandchild, Delvin Pinner, Jr.; two very dear classmates, Mae Urquhart and Christine Young and a host of loving relatives, neighbors and friends.
