Obituary for Mildred Ann Walker (Wilson)
Mildred Ann Walker, 78, was peacefully called home to be with her heavenly father on January 28, 2019 in the presence of family in Norfolk, Va. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her. Mildred was the third child born to the late Eugene and Ora Lee Wilson on December 23, 1940. It was evident from an early age that Mildred would grow to be an exceptionally virtuous woman. After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1959, Mildred went on to attend Norfolk State College to pursue a degree in education. This would lead to numerous opportunities to pursue her dream of becoming an educator.
Mildred grew to know the lord at an early age while attending Oakwood Chapel Church of Christ. Mildred choose to serve the lord through the music ministry at Oakwood while singing in the Angelic Youth with her sisters. The group was so talented that they were later afforded the opportunity to make studio recordings. To support their endeavors the sisters would spend many evenings with the choir preparing and selling dinners. This afforded the choir the opportunity to travel to several cities spreading the goodness of the lord.
Mildred met her soul mate, Robert Willie Walker, at the tender age of 6 years old. From their first interaction, Robert knew Mildred would one day be his wife. After losing contact for several years they would meet again on a city bus and never disconnect again. Robert and Mildred were the epitome of what it meant to be truly in love. They would later welcome a baby girl, Robin Ann Walker, in 1964. If Mildred had a nickname her sisters would inform you that it would be Betty Croker 2, for her exceptional cooking and baking skills. Those that knew Mildred were particularly fond of her homemade Ribs and Texas Chocolate Cake.
Mildred was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert, as well as her mother and father and 3 siblings (Catherine, Alphonzo, and Willie). Mildred’s legacy will live in the lessons taught to her devoted daughter Robin, which was also passed on to her only grandchild Tiffany Nicole Brown of Manchester, Ct. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sisters Prestine Elizabeth Baker and Linda Dunningtonboth in Norfolk, VA as well as her loving brothers Eugene Wilson Jr. of Chesapeake, VA and Michael Dawling of Virginia Beach, Va. She would not want us to forget her special sister Joyce Myers of Norfolk, VA as well as her husband Ronald. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews and other family members that loved her dearly.
