Obituary for Fulcher Wendell Reid

Fulcher Wendell Reid was born on January 8, 1931 in Nansemond County (Suffolk, VA). He was one often children born to the late Admon and Rebecca Skeeter Reid. He was predeceased by his siblings Deborah Ricks (Bennie), Jonah Reid (Evelyn), Beverly Skeeter (Eliza), Calvin Reid, Roy Reid (Daisy), Andrew Reid (Adele), Armesia Reid, and Allen Reid. He is survived by his youngest sister Vivian Jubray, and sister-in-law Daisy Reid.
Fulcher grew up in the Skeetertown Community and was a graduate of East Suffolk High School, where he enjoyed playing football. He also attended Virginia State University where he studied Horticulture. On July 6, 1954 he married the love of his life, Ina May Keys and out of this union was born four ( 4) children: Wendell Keith Reid (Renee), Cheryl Reid Walker (Randy), Michael Reid (Anita), and Karen Reid Boone (Vincent).
He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Korean Conflict. Fulcher joined Mt. Ararat Christian Church at an early age, serving in several different capacities. He was honored to serve as a Deacon, later in life being elevated to Deacon Emeritus. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 3 3 years of dedicated service. His strong work ethic was demonstrated by him never taking a sick day. He was a devoted 50+ year member of the Providence Masonic Lodge # 189, Chesapeake, VA where he served as a Past Master and Secretary. Fulcher served for many years as the first minority president of the United Transportation Union #48. He simply loved reading his Bible, and sharing spiritual insight with his family and friends. He would help anyone if he had the power and the means to do so. He listened to religious broadcast and watched his special ministers of the Gospel.He was an avid gardener. He found it very therapeutic to plant vegetables and watch his crops mature. He loved eating home grown vegetables and sharing them with family and friends. After Sunday Services at Church, he relaxed and watched Sunday Football. Fulcher would play his keyboard and sing hymns for hours on end, once he retired. He appreciated and loved his family and would prepare many barbecues on the grill.
On Friday, April 5, 2019 at 8:40 am Fulcher transitioned to his Heavenly Abode. He leaves behind to cherish his memories and legacy, eleven (11) Grandchildren: Kenneth Reid, Josiah Williams, Jeremy Reid (Danielle), Cy Williams, Travis Williams, Steven Reid (Shannel), Tiara Porter, Vincent Boone, Jr., Tia Reid, Tyler Boone, and Kassidy Boone; Great Grandchildren, Great-Great Granddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, lodge brothers and friends.
