Obituary for Pearlie Mae McIntosh (Carter)
Pearlie Mae McIntosh was born on September 8, 1922 in Pendleton, NC. She departed this mortal earth in the early morning hours of April 29, 2019.
Pearlie Mae was one of 7 children and the oldest daughter of the late Ulysses and Felix Carter. She graduated from Willis Hare High School in Northampton County in 1942. A few years after graduating from high school she moved to Norfolk, where she worked in hospitality, food service, and health care. In 1956 she was joined in holy matrimony to Jessie Vance McIntosh who preceded her in death.
At an early age she accepted Christ and was baptized at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church in Pendleton, NC. When she moved to Norfolk she became a loyal and dedicated member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she was honored for 50 years of membership in 2006. She loved Antioch dearly, and she faithfully served as a member of the church choir as long as her health permitted. Pearlie Mae was also a long-time member of the United Order of Tents where she held several different leadership positions over the years.
Many knew her as “Miss Pearl”, and she enjoyed long conversations with family and friends, traveling, games, puzzles and daily scripture readings. She was a “people person” who was easy to converse with. She was proud of her family, enjoyed sharing family history across the generations, and cherished the time she spent with all of them.
She leaves to mourn a loving and dedicated son, Mr. Jessie C. McIntosh and his wife, Dr. Angela S. McIntosh; three grandchildren, Kalisha N. McIntosh of San Diego, CA; Nicholas S. McIntosh of Sacramento, CA; and Adrienne D. McIntosh of Norfolk who she affectionately called “Doll Baby”; a sister, Mrs. Vera C. Walters of Virginia Beach; a brother, Mr. Willie G. Carter of Washington, DC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
