Obituary for John Cleveland Mitchell

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, our Eternal Father decided to call John Cleveland Mitchell into eternal rest. It was on this day, he made the transition peacefully at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on July 6, 1936 to the late John A. and Candise Odella Smith Mitchell.
Cleveland attended the Roxboro Elementary School and graduated from the John B. Bond High School, Lewiston, North Carolina. After high school graduation, he joined the United States Air Force where he served for 21 years. During his tour of duty Cleveland received countless of numbers of awards, certificates for his exceptional performance. Cleveland was a decorated serviceman with a long list of accolades. He retired from the Air Force June 1971 with a rank of E8. After Air Force Retirement, he began a work career for Civil Service. He employed at Norfolk Naval Station as a Distributional Facility Manager. After 20 years of service, he retired for the second time in September 1997. He was then able to dedicate time to his favorite hobby, "lawn care service." Not was this just his enjoyment and pleasure; this allowed him to see that his late brother-in-law, Willie Rascoe's lawn was well maintained and groomed.
In 1956 he was joined in Holy Matrimony to his lovely bride, Vina Mae Rascoe. To this union, one son was born.
At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savoir and joined Sandy Branch Baptist Church in Roxboro, North Carolina. Throughout his Air Force career he and his family were under the watch care of other Churches. In recent years he joined and enjoyed a weekly Bible Study group in the home of brother in-law, David (Jean) Rascoe in Chesapeake Virginia.
