There is a time for every activity under Heaven. ~Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)

Mary Jane Pender, was born on April 13, 1928 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. She was second of six children born to the late Magnolia Archer and Willie Wiggins. Siblings proceeded her in death Daniel, George, Elizabeth, and Earl.

Mary graduated from W. A. Patillo High School in Tarboro, North Carolina. She later attended Cosmetology school and worked as a cosmologist until she retired.

Mary leaves to cherish and honor her memories a brother, Richard Archer (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and children: Rayfield, Patricia, Allen, Justina, Benjamin, George, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and loving church family. Children proceeded in death were Margie and Maurice. She has 35 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren. Five generations of love she shared and received in her time with us.

Mary a Missionary of First Baptist Church of Lambert’s Point served faithfully in the Senior Choir of which she was the President, as a “Prayer Warrior” to which she was awarded Emeritus status, and a member of the “Day Choir”. She loved her church and church family and was faithful to them both for over 60 years. The dedication she had to her friends throughout her life was like no other, being there for them no matter what the task. She was truly an humble servant. One of her favorite sayings was "Only what you do for Christ will last." This idea is taken from a verse found in Corinthians. The verse from 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 states, "So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.
She was an active member of the Eastern Star for many years.

It was standard practice for the family to gather during the holidays to celebrate and eat. During the summer season, cookouts and barbeques where always well attended and the neighborhood was invited. She loved the card game called Spades, and if you sat down at the table to play with her you knew to prepare yourself for a great time. She also enjoyed early morning or late evening fishing, but if worms were used as bait someone else would have to bait the hook for her.
She would spend countless hours in spiritual word search games and devotional studies by Sara Young “Jesus is Calling”.
On July 14, 2019, Mary was called to be with the Lord. She heeded the Master’s call and claimed the resting place prepared for her.

Grandma would stop at the grocery store after church and say all she getting was some rolls for dinner and used to leave her grandchildren in the car. When she came out of the store , she would have 2 or more bags. She would have gotten eggs, milk, cans of sardines, crackers, bacon, juice, soda, and of course the rolls. She would come out of the store with more than she went in for. I do the same thing now.
