Gertie Mae Parham, 84, transitioned from earth to eternity on September 17, 2019. She graced the world with her presence on July 4, 1935 in Norfolk VA.
She was the youngest of four children born to Richard and Wilbie Smith. She was determined to receive her education and after many years went back to high school to earn her high school diploma from Booker T. Washington high school. Upon graduating she took classes at Commonwealth College and spent most of her professional career working in the Norfolk Educational system.
She took pride in her off springs and was proud of each one of them and remained protective of them even in their adult lives. Gertie was saved and attended St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Rev. Bruce Wooten. She had strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and no matter what happened her favorite saying was “All is Well.”
She leaves to cherish her many memories her four children Edward (Annette) Parham Jr., Gloria and Brenda Parham all of Norfolk VA. As well as Wendell (Shearon) Parham of Plainfield IL. Ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, thirteen great great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Wilbie Smith, two brothers Richard Jr and Jessie Smith, one sister Beulah Tillet and one granddaughter Darlene Parham
