Obituary for Wilma Elizabeth Stocks (Hollomond)

On Sunday morning, October 13, 2019, in Norfolk, Virginia, Wilma Elizabeth Stocks, a loving mother and grandmother of two passed peacefully at Sentara Leigh Hospital at the age of 74. Wilma Elizabeth Hollmond was born on June 20, 1945 in Southampton County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Scott and Ruth Page Hollomond, and her husband William Stocks.

As a child, Wilma lived and went to school in Greensville County and later relocated to Norfolk, Virginia.

Wilma loved her family and made people her family that was not biologically connected to her. She was a born leader and humanitarian, with a warm and wonderful personality. Wilma loved bringing people together which she usually did over food! She was a dynamic and communicative individual who thrived in the public arena, and could make light of any situation with her great sense of humor and a touch of charm. All and all, Wilma was the ultimate life of the party!

Wilma established herself as an extraordinary cook through her many jobs in Norfolk, VA. Wilma’s first cooking job started at Judge’s Chambers in downtown Norfolk and then went on to work at Patty’s Pub off of Little Creek Road, from Patty’s Wilma went to work at Waterside at a restaurant called the Bait Shack. Her next work experience was Wilma’s Chili Parlor on Colley Ave. At the chili parlor all of Wilma’s homemade recipes were prepared and sold. After leaving Wilma’s Chili Parlor, she went on to live out her dream of owning her own business, Wilma’s Cafe, in Chesapeake, VA.! Wilma Stocks was a known and esteemed cook, however, it should be noted that although she was a cook like no other, Wilma did not wish to be referred to as a Chef because it was her belief that… Quote: “All Chefs do, is make sauces, and a F_ _ _ing mess.”

Wilma’s Cafe was a successful family soul food spot by day and a slamm’n family lounge by night! Wilma’s cooking and place of business will forever be remembered.

Wilma Elizabeth (Hollmond) Stocks survived by her two daughters, Sharon Hollmond-Cross (Kenneth) and Shirl Hollmond; three grandchildren, Kiersten Hollmond, Amtyh Osunbunmi Asili, Kenneth Cross II; one great-grandchild, Serigne Saliou Diakhate; one brother, Carlton Scott; one sister, Karen Scott; two special cousins, Doris Belton (James Belton) and Jackie Reid. She leaves memories to be cherished by her close friends Bertha Underdue-Turner, Fannie Osborne, Linda “Tookie” Farmer and Tammy Boone (Pennie); five first cousins from the Hollmond lineage, and a host of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, cousins, and friends.

She was well loved by so many and will certainly be missed.
