Ellen “Cornelia” Whitehurst was born on March 30, 1935 in Norfolk, VA to the late Frank & Louise McClain. She departed this life on November 18, 2019 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. After attending Norfolk Public Schools, she met and married David R. Whitehurst III in 1954. They lived in Norfolk for several years before they relocated to New York City in the 1960s where she worked at Mary Manning Walsh Home as a CNA. They returned to Virginia in 1986 with a daughter that they waited for, for many years, Shenay E. Whitehurst. There she continued her nursing career at Lafayette Villa in Norfolk, VA, Sentara Nursing Center and Comfort Care Home Health in Chesapeake, VA. She became a member of Bountiful Blessings Ministries in Norfolk, VA under the leadership of Pastors Brian and Derrell Johnson where she was an active member and mother of the church. She is pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, Margarie, Azrine, and Ernestine, 4 brothers Joe Frank, Alphonso, Earl and Clarence. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, 1 Sister Audrey Pryor of Richmond, 2 grandchildren, Kewan A. Anthony, and KeAsya Y. Baker, a special sister in love Virginia Burns, 2 special “adopted” children Denise Faison Smith and Ronald West, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Graves Funeral Home in Norfolk, VA on Tuesday November 26, 2019 @ 1pm, Burial will take place at the Alfred G. Horton Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
