Obituary for James Edward Bland

James Edward Bland

James Bland, known to friends as “Jimmy” made an unexpected transition to his heavenly home on Monday, April 27, 2020, at the young age of 66, as a Die-Hard New York Giants Fan!
A native of Tidewater Park, he attended New Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board and Omnibus driver. He loved driving the members of the Congregation to various outings.
He was the youngest son born to the late Sara V. Bryant and John R. Bland Sr., on January 4, 1954, in Norfolk, VA.
Entering the workforce, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army, as a Stock Clerk. He proudly served his country and was Honorably discharged. Shortly after, he gained employment on Norfolk Operating Base (NOB), as an Aircraft Freight Loader. Jimmy also worked a part-time job, at National Linen, as a Lead Machine Operator.
In 1991, he was employed with Vico Construction Company. Jimmy also worked for a landscaping company where he gained the skills to maintain the lawns of his family and friends. As we know he never sat still; he found a part-time job working at Parks Food Store in Norfolk during the evenings and on weekends. In 1996 he secured a position with the City of Norfolk, working his way to Lead Supervisor. After 20 years of hard work and dedication he retired from the City of Norfolk, December 1, 2016, as a Grounds Keeper.
Jimmy will forever be remembered by his loving and devoted wife, Priscilla Curtis Bland, his two daughters; Tanisha Haynes (Anthony) and Franchesca Bland; three sons, Charles, Christopher and Cordell Curtis. Five grandchildren; Imani and Ayden Haynes, Jalen Peterkin, Cordajua and Cordell Curtis Jr. Beloved Brother, John R. Bland Jr. (Valarie); a sister-in-law, Belinda Outlaw (Charles); a brother-in-law, Robert Curtis Jr. (Helena, deceased); a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends, among them very close and dear friend Aaron Monroe
