Madge Louise Kinsey Cuffee
On Friday, May 15, 2020 the Old Ship of Zion pulled into Port Beachmont, Pier 2719 and Madge Louise Kinsey Cuffee quietly walked up the gangplank. Awaiting her arrival were her parents, Jeremiah and Catherine Sawyer Kinsey; siblings, Alexander Kinsey, Kathleen Kinsey Howell, Jessie “Boots” Kinsey and George “Jack” Kinsey; niece, Joyce Kinsey Hollis and her beloved husband, Willie Reginal Cuffee.
Next Port of Call… Heaven.
Continuing on their earthly journeys are daughter, Willie Louise Wright; granddaughter, Danielle Myers (George); great -granddaughter, Serena A. Myers; niece, Phyllis Chapman; great niece, Danita Reid Jackson (Toronto); great-great niece Tiana Jackson; great great-nephews Jamaur and Joron Jackson; great - great - great niece and nephew, Ta’Nyia and Joseph and one sister- in-law, Lossie B. Kinsey.
In her journey, Madge or ‘SUK’ was always a beacon of light. She never met a stranger and her generosity and kindness were boundless. She was the family griot. For 35 years she taught and nurtured thousands of children in the Chesapeake School System before her retirement in 1983. She was a graduate of Elizabeth City State College Class of 1942. She was Miss Alumni 1967.
She was a past member of the ECSU Alumni Association and was active in the Southside Senior Club.
A devout Christian, she joined Pilgrim Journey African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church at the age of eleven. She held many positions including Deaconess Emeritus, Trustee and Choir Member.
Port of Call… Heaven.
Upon arrival Madge was greeted by her Lord and Savior and escorted down the gangplank.
Her hand in His; as she had placed it there, all of her life.
