Obituary for Helen Elizabeth Woodley (Wallace)
Helen Elizabeth Wallace Woodley was born on September 11, 1925 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the union of John Norman Wallace and Sarah Elizabeth Ball Wallace. She attended the Indianapolis Public School #42 and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School. Helen United in Holy Matrimony to Lemuel Thorton Woodley on July 27, 1946. This union was blessed with five beautiful children. Lemuel preceded Helen in death after more than 53 years of marriage.
Helen was employed at the Government Department of Defense in Indianapolis, Indiana, and she also worked at Bulova Watch Company in Astoria, NY.
Helen professed a hope in Christ at an early age in Indianapolis, Indiana. After marriage she moved to Astoria, NY, and became an active member of Refuge Church. until she moved to Norfolk, VA when her husband retired.
Mother Woodley then joined New Hope Church of God in Christ and was on the go for the Missionary and Mother’s Board. Mother Woodley was a faithful worker for the Lord until her health fail her. She enjoyed cooking for funerals at the church and visiting the sick and shut in.
Helen took great pride in caring for her family. Helen's motto "Always be thankful and grateful for what God has done in your life”.
Mother Woodley transitioned from labor to reward on Sunday June 28, 2020 at the age of 94 years, 9 months and 17 days. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John, and Elizabeth Wallace; a daughter, Diane Marie Woodley; brothers, John Wallace, Jr and Norman Rhoades and sister, Verna Marie Turner.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughters, Sherann Marie Allen (Robert); Cynthia Marie Harris (Ronnie); sons, Lemuel Alvin Woodley and Anthony Ray Woodley (Pia); granddaughter, Nyla Marie Harris (Lenny); grandsons, Ronnie Jr and Mathew Harris, Xavier Alan Woodley; great-granddaughter Shana Marie Harris, and a host of family and friends. A Special appreciation to Janna Blackwell, a spiritual daughter.
