John Herbert Taylor, Sr. departed this life on October 14, 2020 at 2:10 p.m. He was born July 3rd, 1936 in Louisville, Kentucky - son to the late Chessie Holloway and Barnett Taylor. At a young age he was baptized at Bethel Temple Apostolic Faith Church and later received Christ as his personal savior. His career in the United States Navy spanned 30 years where he retired as an Aviation Ordinance Master Chief Petty Officer on the 1st of June, 1983 from NAS Norfolk Weapons. A Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. His duty stations covered Fighter Squadrons, Shore Commands, Five Aircraft Carriers and he was a plank owner of the First Nuclear Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Enterprise CVAN-65. He was assigned as an Air Crew Member with Helicopter Mine Counter measure Squadron HM-12 and NAS Norfolk. Prior to his retirement from NAS Norfolk Weapons Department, he served as Command Master Chief of Carrier Air Wing One onboard the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy CVA-67. He received numerous Campaign Ribbons, Medals and Citations, most notably the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star.

After his retirement from the United States Navy, he started his second career as a full time Realtor with Rose and Womble Realty in Virginia Beach at the Lynnhaven Office. He was a member of the Hampton Roads Realtor Association, the Virginia Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. John was successful as a realtor and enjoyed helping his clients in their Real Estate endeavors. “The Caring Agent” was his motto and he lived up to that in every transaction. John was also a member of Jacks Senior Golfers, Jones family golfers as well as the Fleet Reserve Association of Virginia Beach Branch 166 where he served on the Board of Directors.
John was joined in Matrimony the 22nd of August 1959 to his beloved late wife Lula M. Taylor. John leaves to cherish his memory three sons, John H. Taylor, Jr. of San Diego, California, Michael T. Taylor of Ocean City Maryland, Kevin J. Taylor of Jacksonville, Florida, Two daughters – Carla M. Taylor of Chesapeake, Virginia and Katherine Morrison of Nashville, Tennessee. His brother in law – Cordell Reid of Louisville, Kentucky. Ten grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
