Obituary for Elizabeth Arrington "'Liz'" Lancaster (Arrington)

Elizabeth Arrington was born October 1, 1935 in Norfolk, Virginia to Betsy C. Arrington and James D. Arrington. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1952. September 20, 1965, she married Mr. Leroy Lancaster, Sr. also of Norfolk, Virginia.

Along with her parents, she is predeceased by two sisters, Dicey Watson and Josephine Williams.


Elizabeth, also affectionately known as Liz, Biddy, and Nana; was a member of Saint Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she taught the Adult Sunday School for over 25 years, was a member of the Senior Choir, the Stewardess Board, a Vacation Bible School Teacher, and chaired several Women’s Day programs.


She worked in the cafeteria as the lead food preparer for Norfolk Public Schools for 20 years, having worked at Coleman Place Elementary, Lake Taylor High School and Booker T. Washington High School.


She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Leroy of 55 years. She was the devoted mother to three children, Felecia A. Arrington of Norfolk, Virginia; Brian K. Lancaster (Cassandra), of Norfolk, Virginia and Lee Lancaster of Vallejo, California. She is survived by three grandchildren; Dr. Janina S. Arrington of Houston, Texas; Brandon K. Lancaster, of Northern Virginia and Bria E. Lancaster of Norfolk, Virginia.

She also leaves to cherish her memory, sister Deborah Mason of Chesapeake, Virginia; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; special niece Kathy Ridgenal; church friend Joann Tillery; The Glam Squad, and a host of friends and church family.

On any given day, you could be certain to find Nana reading the daily Virginian Pilot newspaper and her Bible.
