Obituary for George Leroy "Little John" Smith

George L Smith, of Virginia Beach, Virginia died on October 17, 2020. After receiving his High School Diploma, George joined the United States Army where served in Baumholder, Germany. Upon his return, he wed his childhood friend, Anita L. Givens. George, also lovingly known as Lil John, went on to continue his service with the government as a Supply Specialist at the South Annex, Norfolk Naval Station.

George was a pillar in the community who dedicated his life to the service of others. As a retiree, George volunteered many hours assisting disabled veterans acquire healthcare and benefits. His commitment led to the appointment of Commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 21 in Norfolk Virginia.

George was a member of The New Rose of Sharon Elim Baptist Church of Chesapeake, VA. Here he served as a committed member and acted as the Financial Minister.

In his spare time, George enjoyed a good game of chess but this could never compare to the excitement he held for the New York Giants.

George was a devout family man and friend who loved us all unconditionally.

George was preceded in death by his father, George Smith, his mother, Doris W. Smith, and brother, Fredrick White.
Survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Anita L. Smith of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Brothers, Otis M. Smith and Gary Smith (Sheryl). Sisters, Brenda Stokes (Linwood) and Lorraine Williams.

Nieces and Nephews; Sheldon Griffin, Sonia Harrison (Danel), Carlton and Cameron Williams, Melvin Shepherd, Darry Smith (Nakeesha), Anton Smith, Jonathan, Joshua, and Joseph Smith and a host of cousins and friends.
