Obituary

Pearl Leatha Byrd of the 3900 block of Rumford Lane in Virginia Beach gained her wings October 26, 2020. She was born January 24, 1924 to the late Louise Daniels and Robert Daniels in Wilson, NC.

Pearl is predeceased by her husband Henry James Byrd, Sr, her sons Lorenzo Lee Byrd, Horace Lee Woodard (Edna), Henry James Byrd, Jr (Laura) and her daughter Margaret Marie Jones.

Mother Pearl is also predeceased by her siblings Edward Daniels (Agnes), Beatrice Whitaker (Henry) and Robert Daniels, Jr (Mattoria). She is survived by her children Mary Moore (Harvey), Milton Byrd (Cynthia) and Pearly Smallwood (Nathan). Pearl has 20 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a Meritorious Mother of Good News Family Worship Center under Levi Willis II. Mother Byrd was also a Mother of Jesus Christ House of Worship under Pastor Margaret Jones, Pastor Ruth Flemming and Pastor Pearly Smallwood. She was a prayer warrior with healing hands. She was baptized in Jesus name and fire baptized with the holy ghost. Mother Byrd loved the Lord with all her heart and she followed the precepts and commandments of God with passion. The Lord granted His promise of long life because she lived to be 96 years old. She was a mighty prayer warrior and could get her prayers to reach heaven for many of her family, her church family and friends. One of her favorite songs was, “Something inside of me telling me to go ahead.”
