Obituary for Robert Leroy Bowe

Robert Leroy Bowe

Age 72 was affectionately known as "Box", "Boxhead" & "Pops" went home to glory early Tuesday morning on November 3, 2020 at his residence in Suffolk, Virginia.

Robert was born on March 12, 1948 to Bessie B. McConnell & Jesse L. Bowe, Sr. in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University. Robert was also a faithful member of the Historic Queen Street Baptist Church, where he served on the Male Usher Board. After 36 years of service, he retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his daughter Angela (Kevin) Alexander, his son Demetrous R. Bowe, Antionette Urquhart. His brother Glen Lacey, sister Diane B. Olds, granddaughter Keshona N. Goodman, grandsons Keith M. Bowe & Demetrous R. Bowe, Jr., greatgrandchildren Kmaiya I. Bowe & Kasen M. Bowe as well as his ex-wife Eldorado Hodges, other family members and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by both his parents Bessie B. McConnell & Jesse L. Bowe, Sr., both brothers Jesse L. Bowe Jr. & Alphonso Bowe and his son Shelton S. Bowe.

Robert Leroy Bowe was well known for his beautiful smile, positive attitude and vibrant personality. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan, avid jazz lover, enjoyed playing chess & any type of cards. Bowe was a world traveler, mentor, teacher and adviser to many. He will truly be missed. Special thanks to his caregiver and friend China Burton.
