Obituary for Doris Mae Dreuitt Lassiter (Franklin)

Mrs. Doris M. Dreuitt-Lassiter passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach, VA, on November 10, 2020, in the company of her loving husband, Reverend Jesse Lassiter, and her step-children after a long illness. Doris was 87 years old.

Born in Virginia Beach, Doris was the second of five children. Her parents were Cleo M. Franklin and Annie Belle Hayes-Franklin. She was educated in Virginia, New Jersey and New York and attended several colleges on the East Coast. She had an admirable career as an educator, mentor, and dietician and received her Master Barber license in 1966. She owned and operated her own barbershop for many years. Doris was active in her church community and dutifully supported her husband during his years leading Zion United Church of Christ.

Doris is survived by her husband, Reverend Jesse Lassiter, two step-children, Darryl (Jane) Lassiter and Denise (Victor) Lassiter-Vachon, her sisters, Vivian A. Butts and Elizabeth Cross, and her special nephew, Leon Butts. She leaves behind her special friends: Mrs. Shelby Jiannine, Mr. & Mrs. Isaiah Overton, Mr. Leon & Mrs. Vanessa Boone, Mr. Lewis & Mrs. Patricia Stewart, Mrs. Mary Thomas, Mrs. Shirley Taylor, and Mrs. Reita Stith, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by mother, Annie Belle Hayes-Franklin, father, Cleo M. Franklin, sister, Carolyn Powell, and brother, Linwood L. Franklin. She was loved dearly and will be missed by all who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Doris M. Dreuitt-Lassiter to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Fire Department or the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund.
