“Lisa Michelle Lindsey McGee was an enthusiastic and passionate wife, mother, daughter, sister, manager, co-worker, and faithful Christian. Lisa received Christ at a very early age and developed a strong, solid relationship with Christ in 1983. Lisa went to East Montgomery High School where she served on the Student Council and Beta Club she was a cheerleader, played softball, basketball and participated on the Drill Team. She graduated in 1986 and went on to attend North Carolina A&T State University and was a first-generation college student, which paved the way for many in her family. Lisa enjoyed her college life immensely and accumulated many friends in the process. She graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a BS in Nursing in 1992. Lisa worked at multiple Healthcare Systems in the Greensboro area before she married and moved to Virginia.
Lisa went on to marry her childhood sweetheart, Erik McGee, Sr. The funny thing about it, they eloped in July 1992 and no one knew it. Yes, that was indicative of Lisa McGee - spontaneous, strong-willed, opinionated, feisty, fun loving, talkative, a little overbearing, energetic, compassionate and a leader.
Lisa had a 26-year career in Nursing and someone pinned it best with the hashtag-- #NurseLegend. Lisa accumulated many accolades during her nursing career. In 2008, she was honored by the Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. Eta Chapter and received the “Glowing Lamp” for her work in Nursing and for her assistance with numerous projects within her hospital which were recognized throughout the healthcare system. Lisa’s home away from home was Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (5k and 10k Units). This group was her family as well as her friends. She was co-chair of the Patient Fall and Sickle Cell Committee as well as a Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) Expert at SNGH. Lisa was a Team Coordinator and Medical Surgical Certified Nurse, she was identified for being “A Root of Success” with the Preceptor Appreciation award for providing an environment where others could flourish and also recognized for her excellence and outstanding leadership by her managers and directors with the “Lighting the Way” award. Lisa was also a Norfolk State University Nursing School Instructor Adjunct for many years and enjoyed instructing young, up and coming nurses.
Lisa enthusiastically devoted most of her life to her career. Although she struggled with pain from her condition daily, she always strived to not miss work and would forge ahead even when she was encouraged to rest. She was always keen on supporting and doing her part for her family.
Lisa served faithfully sowed her time, talents and treasures at Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, VA for over 26 years. She worked tirelessly in Luke’s (Health) Ministry, New Members, and other areas supporting, volunteering and being there in any way she could. This devotion to ministry was developed early in her Christian life serving faithfully as a youth in the choir, teaching Youth Bible Study as well as Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.
At the beginning of the year, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) happened. However, Lisa NEVER flinched and maintained unwavering diligence to keep pushing and going to work. Her family would encourage her not to put herself in situations where she could potentially contract this virus; nonetheless, she forged ahead and kept working. Unfortunately, during the middle of this year, she contracted COVID-19 and spent time in the ICU - but was out in just 3 days! Lisa survived COVID-19 - Praise GOD! She was excited about that and went back to work within a few weeks. Nonetheless, she kept moving through it all and was focused on her ‘Fall Reports” at work. Even when staff called her while she was in the hospital, she would discuss work and try to be in the ‘know’ about the happenings in the unit. Lisa has left a legacy for her family, friends and the nursing profession.
To carry on this legacy, she leaves her husband Erik Lawrence McGee, Sr. and her son Erik Lawrence McGee, Jr., who was beloved, cherished, and appreciated dearly by his mom - his biggest cheerleader; her mom, Ella Mae Smith and stepfather Joe Cephus Smith. She also leaves her sisters, Sharon Lindsey (Michael) Stevens, Manda Lindsey (Larry) Maxwell, Claudette Lawaun Lindsey, and stepbrother Rodley (Angela) Smith; her nieces Karrington Maxwell, Charisma Stevens, and Katara Jones; her nephews, Michael Stevens, Christian Carr, Matthew Stevens; her great-nephew Ayden Carr as well as her mother-in-law Carol Terry, father-in-law Howard McGee, Jr. and her brother-In-laws Craig (Felicia) McGee, Stephan (Ebonie) McGee and Wesley (Tamara) McGee.
