Obituary

On Saturday, November 21, 2020 Tonya Yolanda Wilkins answered her final role call on earth. As she heard the call of the Master’s voice, she transitioned from labor to reward in her home with family at her side. Tonya was born September 8, 1971 in Norfolk Virginia to her parents, Donald Lee Wilkins, Jr. and Edith Mae Wilkins.

Tonya grew up in Norfolk and graduated form Norview High School in 1990. She was known to many as “YoYo”.

Tonya had many interests which included family, cooking, dancing, doing hair, positive energy and helping people out. She loved her grandchildren. It was common practice that she was cooking a meal for them.

Tonya was known for her cooking in her community. She didn’t know a stranger. She would strike up a conversation with almost anyone and willing to offer a helping hand.

No matter where Tonya lived or where she moved to it was easy for someone to fall in love with her kind spirit and positive attitude. She enjoyed people and making memories of time well spent.

Tonya will forever be loved and dearly missed yet she truly was a devoted person. Tonya was a a ray of light with positive energy. She was a loving mother, grandma, sister and friend.

To Tonya's Family:
I was blessed with getting to know your mother through Jackie Moore, who is my cousin. Your mom had a beautiful personality and such a "Happy Presence". I learned to love her early in our relationship, as she was such a good friend to my cousin, Jackie. She was there to be her good friend, a listening ear, hair braider, and roadrunner after Jackie's husband passed, as it was difficult for me, not living in the Tidewater area. We all carry memories of those who leave before us, and your mother left a legacy of love to each person she encountered. Embrace her love for each of you and continue to share her love of family with each other. God bless each of you.
