Obituary for Evelyn Ann Cousins (Welch)

Evelyn A. Cousins was welcomed into this world on December 4, 1940 by her parents Cleties & Isabella Welch. She was born in Little Washington, NC. Her early years were spent in North Carolina until the family moved to Norfolk, VA. After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, she married Claude Cousins, Jr.in 1958 and traveled with him during his military career.

Her life touched many in her family, the community and her church. She was a faithful servant of God who had a gentle spirit that was infectious and welcoming to all who came in contact with her. She always had a kind word to say and enjoyed taking car rides with a large cup of sweet tea in hand.

Mrs. Cousins was a member of Zion Light Church of Christ Disciples in Norfolk, VA. She attended regularly until her health started to decline.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Cousins, Jr., her parents Cleties & Isabella Welch; two sisters, Fruzie Edwards and Mary Boone.

She is survived by a son, Kenton Cousins of Jacksonville, FL, two daughters, Kimberly Cousins of Virginia Beach, VA and Shannon (Kevin) Hinton of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Tamekia Cousins and Natasha Cousins, three great-grandchildren, Jaelen Wall, Saniyyah Cousins and Jerel Burrus, Jr.; three brothers, Johnnie (Terri) Welch of Gonzales, CA, Manlus (Joyce) Welch of Chesapeake, VA, Cleties (Sharon) Welch of Suffolk, VA and one sister, Juanita (Willie) Smith of Norfolk, VA. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

These relatives and friends will mourn their loss and are charged with reflecting the marvelous light and love of her memory in their lives.
