Obituary for Garland Eugene Burke

Garland Eugene Burke was born Dec. 20, 1946 in Norfolk, VA. He is the son of Doris T. Pollock and Richard N. Burke (deceased). He is survived by his spouse Rosa M. Burke, daughter Donya Y. Burke, and Danielle C. Vaughan and a stepson Demetrius L. Burgess (Sherri Burgess). He is also survived by three sisters Doris B. Walker (Robert S. Walker III); Phyllis Y. Almond (Purnell M. Almond, Sr.) and Velma Bowens (Herman Bowens, Jr.). Garland has seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He has an aunt, two uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends across the country.

Garland was a part of a Military Family and resided in Amarillo, TX, Chesapeake, VA, Jacksonville, FL, Norfolk, VA, and Panama City, FL. Garland graduated from Carver High School in Chesapeake, VA, and as a teenager was employed by Krisp-Park Company full-time. After High School, he continued his education at Norfolk State College while working for Weyerhaeuser Corp., and Sandler Foods. Upon retirement from Weyerhaeuser, he attended Tidewater Community College where he received and Associates Degree in Automobile Mechanics. Due to his achievements at school, he was then employed by Tidewater Community College as a Vehicle Fleet Manager. He subsequently retired from Tidewater Community College.

Garland loved baseball as a child and played on local teams. As an adult, he loved automobiles and boats. That love was surpassed only by his love of fishing. He was an avid and passionate Fisherman. He loved going fishing, talking fishing, teaching fishing, and consuming fish. He shared this love with everyone.

Garland loved his wife, his family, and never met a stranger. He was known for his kindness and unbridled enthusiasm. His spirit is free, we will miss him dearly.
