Ida Mae Niles gained her wings January 3, 2021. Ida was born on December 20, 1941. She was the daughter of the late Rosa Mae and James Charley Thomas. Ida was a native of Norfolk, VA where she attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.

After high school she met the love of her life, Frank Niles. From this union, they had two children LaCole and Brian. Ida worked for the Social Security Administration until her husband was called for deployment. She then obtained her license as a daycare provider overseas in Germany. Ida was not only a supportive wife of 44 years to an active-duty service member but also a loving mother to her children and the children she cared for at her home day care. While caring for her family, she furthered her education; obtained her associate's degree; became a private duty nurse and worked for Sentara.
Ida loved to dance, talk, make ceramics, gardening, and took pride in keeping a manicured lawn. She was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA where she served on the Nurse Unit every 3rd Sunday, until her health began to fail.
Ida Mae Niles was preceded in death by her brother Andrew Ferbee and husband Frank Niles. She leaves to cherish her memories are her devoted children Brian Niles (Arleen) and LaCole Niles; grandchildren, Dejah and Kaylani; sister, Gloria Hill; sister- in- law Marjorie Watts and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends among them devoted friends Annette and Johnny Owens
