Gladys Ann Watkins-Stewart was born May 13, 1940 to the late Robert C. & Gladys H. Watkins in Bluefield, Va. She was the oldest of four siblings. She departed this earthly journey after having a talk with Jesus and gaining her wings on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 in Chesapeake Va.
She held many talents and shared them with everyone. An avid cake decorator, seamstress, flower arranger, ceramic painter, quilter; she also crocheted, knitted and of most recent made handmade ornament. Her true gift to us was her solid faith in God, a compassionate heart and giving of herself to most anyone she came in contact with.
Gladys was educated in the Tazwell County school system, graduating from Tazwell County High School and earning her bachelors at Bluefield State University. She retired as an educator after spending many years as a teacher in Maryland schools and her final 14 years at Kindercare as a Daycare Manager. She was a true advocate for children and loved all that she came in contact with. She received many accolades and merits along the way, but her devotion to her family was most prominent. With many encouraging words, prayers and witnessing about the love of God to all, she was a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Sherman C.(Sam) Stewart, Jr. and her brother Robert C. (Bobby) Watkins, Jr.
She now leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her daughter, Kim (Kevin)White of Chesapeake, Va.; and son Bryant(Bonnie)Watkins of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Chavelle White, Kevin White II, Zachary Watkins and Jordan Watkins; her sister, Carolyn Tilghman; her brother, Harold Watkins; three nieces, Kathy Watkins, Karen Mitchell and Michelle Tilghman ; two nephews, Derrick and Anthony Watkins; many great-nieces and nephews, two of which she raised Armone’ & Savion Watkins and a host of great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, church family and dear friends.
