Obituary for Carolyn Lee Baker (McCoy)
On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Carolyn Lee Baker was quietly and peacefully called to her Heavenly home. Carolyn was born in Norfolk, VA on June 6, 1948 and was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Gladys McCoy. She was married to Linwood Sherwood Baker who truly believed she exemplified the true calling of a Christian. Matthew 5:16, says “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Her husband and family believed she truly did let her light shine! She was predeceased by her parents, her eldest brother, Freddie McCoy, and her sister, Nancy Anderson.
Carolyn Baker attended Booker T. Washington High School and was employed by AT&T as a Long-Distance Operator which she truly enjoyed. She eventually had to retire when her health began to decline.
Serving God, loving and caring for her family has always been a high priority in her life. Being surrounded by her family and friends, praying for her family and her church brought her such sweet relief and comfort. Her family circle is an extremely loving and supportive one. It consist of her loving husband, her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews who have always held her up in the highest regards. Her husband carefully transported Carolyn wherever she desired to travel when she no longer could drive safely and independently, but he had always been her designated driver. They were the “A Team” of couples and enjoyed their time together and the time spent with the entire family.
All of her family and friends would eagerly agree that Carolyn really loved the Lord and truly loved her church family at Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ. She had been actively involved with the Usher Board, the AIMS Youth Program, the Kitchen Committee, the Pastor’s Aide and the Golden Eagles which is a Seniors Program. She was also appointed to Cathedral of Faith Mother’s Board where she served faithfully until her health declined.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, Linwood Baker; four sons, Calvin White, Jr., Anthony White, Joseph White and Aaron Baker; nine grandchildren, DeShaun Martin, Stanika Rowson, DeʹShawnda White, LaTonya White, Julius Parker, Calvin White III, Cameron White, Tyʹsean Davis and Eleazar Banks; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Budd, and Jean Sykes; brothers, Joseph McCoy (Carolyn), and Irvin McCoy (Cathy); sister-in-law, Janice McCoy and a host of nieces, nephews, her beloved Prayer Partners and family and friends.
